Delegasi AIIOC tiba di Leiden dalam rangka koordinasi Penyelenggaraan ICAS ke-13 2024 dengan IIAS

The Airlangga University delegation, represented by AIIOC, arrived in Leiden to further coordinate regarding the 13th ICAS 2024 in Surabaya. The agenda was primarily concerned with the continuation of cooperation operations between Airlangga University and IIAS, as well as non-degree training programs for AIIOC staff.

The delegation included AIIOC’s director, Lina Puryanti, Ph. D., secretary, Irfan Wahyudi, Ph. D., and a research staff member, Alexei Wahyudiputra. Adrian Perkasa, Ph. D (candidate), AIIOC’s Collaboration and Strategic Issue Manager, has also been appointed as project manager of ICAS 13, 2024, Surabaya by IIAS. Deans from two of AIIOC’s initiator faculties, Prof. Purnawan Basundoro of the Faculty of Humanities and Prof. Santi Martini of the Faculty of Public Health, were also present in Leiden.

Arriving on 9 October 2023, AIIOC delegates directly worked at IIAS office to talk about many things regarding the preparation of the 13th ICAS, 2024. Several things discussed in this meeting were the participation scheme for international and Indonesian art and grassroot communities, budgeting, panel and roundtable sessions, book exhibitions, night market, and  arrangement for the committees from IIAS and Universitas Airlangga. Their visit lasted until 1 November 2023.

Aside from ICAS-related matters, AIIOC delegates were also invited to the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of IIAS. The commemoration was held from 12 October 2023 to 13 October 2023. On the first day, a roundtable discussion at the historic Stadsgehoorzal Theatre with the theme of “Decolonizing Area Studies“ at  was attended by IIAS’ networks coming from many countries and many backgrounds, not necessarily figures who worked in academia. The second day of the celebration was conceptually different from the first one, in which a cultural festival named “IIAS Open Day” was held. The event had various programmes, ranging from open discussions from IIAS’ initiatives and fellows to interactive workshops that involved cultural practitioners and food entrepreneurs. This two-day commemoration is a monumental event for the relationship strengthening between IIAS, Universitas Airlangga, and AIIOC. It also became a site for AIIOC to broaden its international exposure by meeting a lot of South-South-North academic networks and initiating plans to work collaboratively.
